Among skin conditions, there are some issues that naturopaths with their holistic perspective can help extensively at many levels.

Acne

Acne is a common condition of skin that is most prevalent during the age of adolescence. However, the incidence of adult acne seems to be rising. Acne appears when the hair follicle become clogged due to overproduction of oil in oil gland of hair follicle, or the dead skin cell plug the pores.

Sebum, the oil that is produced in the oil gland of your hair follicle, regularly comes up through the hair channel and scatter on the skin surface in order to make a barrier to protect skin from environmental dryness. During adolescence with rising of sex hormone, overproduction of sebum happens, and the composition and concentration of sebum alters which accompanied by increased turn-over of skin cells, results in clogging the pores and triggering a local inflammatory process named acne.

Eczema:

Eczema is a broad term for a chronic condition of skin presenting by dryness, itchiness, and patchy redness rashes mostly on face, neck, and creases. Sweating might be a trigger for start of itching and itching.

There are many causes for eczema such as contact with irritant plant, chemical or food agents, food intolerance, stress and anxiety, vitamin deficiencies, mineral deficiencies, essential fatty acid deficiencies, digestive disorders like IBS or even sun exposure or vascular insufficiency.

Knowing the cause sometimes help reducing the frequency and intensity of flare ups. There are specialized lab tests for each etiology that help with better recognition of the root cause and proper approach.

Psoriasis:

Psoriasis is an auto immune skin disease which the immune system of your body by error makes your skin cells multiply faster than normal with low quality attachments, resulting in patches of thickened and red skin covered by silvery scales. patches are dry and itchy.

Psoriasis is a chronic condition with multiple periods of flare ups and remissions. The cause of this autoimmune disease is relatively unclear, but some triggers are recognized such as stress, alcohol, tobacco, some infections, and some medications among many. Psoriasis can be limited to local skin lesion and can be systemic and involve joints and as a result arthritis with joint inflammation, pain, swelling and redness.

It is unclear what causes this immune system malfunction, but possible triggers include infections, skin injuries, stress or exposure to tobacco, alcohol, or certain medications (e.g., beta blockers).

Naturopathy has a good grasp in helping with autoimmune diseases and working on the root cause.
